RBI draws a line on loan recovery: No harassment, no anonymous calls, banks held accountable
According to India Today (7 August 2026), RBI draws a line on loan recovery: No harassment, no anonymous calls, banks held accountable — read the source report.
The Reserve Bank of India registers the company, not its apps, and does not 'approve' loan apps at all. Where a regulator acts, it is acting on that registered entity — which is why a borrower should always check a lender by its company name on the RBI's own list.
What a borrower can do
- RBI Sachet — sachet.rbi.org.in — to report a lender or an unlawful lending practice.
- RBI Complaint Management System — cms.rbi.org.in — the Ombudsman, after raising the complaint with the lender's grievance officer and allowing 30 days.
- National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal — cybercrime.gov.in — or 1930 — for threats, blackmail or misuse of your phone data.
- Free government legal aid — NALSA and your State and District Legal Services Authorities.
Check the lender yourself. Search the company name that appears in your loan agreement on the RBI's own register of NBFCs, and read how to check a loan app in two minutes and how to report one.
If the pressure has become unbearable, please talk to someone today — Tele-MANAS is free and open around the clock on 14416, and KIRAN on 1800-599-0019. Being unable to repay a loan is a civil matter; you cannot be jailed for it.
