The masthead
Editorial standards and corrections policy
This site names lenders. That is only defensible if the reader can see exactly where every statement came from — so these are the rules we hold ourselves to, published so they can be held against us.
Every claim about a named company is one of exactly three things
A verbatim quotation from that company's own document — its website, app, loan agreement or Key Facts Statement — with the page and the date we read it. A fact from a public register, with the register and the date consulted. Or an expressly labelled allegation, drawn from a documented complaint. There is no fourth category, and "is understood to" is not attribution.
We do not call companies names
We never state or imply that a named company is a scam, a fraud, illegal, unlicensed or unregistered, and we never attribute purpose, intention or design to it. Where a company's own pages describe it in inconsistent terms, we quote both and say that we do not resolve which is correct. Whether a registration requirement or exemption applies to any company is a question for the Reserve Bank of India, not for us.
Our arithmetic is labelled as ours
Where we annualise a documented loan ourselves, the figure is marked as this site's calculation and the method and denominator are shown on the page. A lender's own disclosed APR and our annualisation are never merged into a single number, and where they differ we print both and leave the difference unresolved.
Borrowers are never identifiable
We do not publish a borrower's name, employer, address, phone number, loan account number or medical detail — not in the body, not in a caption, not in an image, not in metadata. Case material is published only with the borrower's consent, and only in a form that cannot identify them. Where an image would carry a third party's data, we publish no image.
Allegations stay allegations
A complaint, a police report or an application to a forum is an allegation that has not been established, and is described that way every time it appears. An interim court order is not a finding. We do not report a pending matter as though it had been decided.
We are not a law firm and we sell nothing
loantrap.org is an independent, non-commercial publisher. It is not a law firm, is not operated by one, offers no legal services and takes no clients. There is no advertising, no affiliate link and no lead generation on this site. The only routes we point readers to are official government channels and free government legal aid.
Who writes this
Reporting on this site is bylined to the loantrap.org Newsroom rather than to an individual. That is a deliberate choice, and it is the same model wire services and many investigative desks use: the organisation, not one writer, carries responsibility for what is published.
We will not invent a human byline. A fabricated author is a lie told to the reader, and on a site that names lenders it would also be the easiest way to discredit everything else here. Where you see a name on this site, it is a real person who is genuinely accountable for the page.
A desk byline is not anonymity. Every article carries the date its sources were read, links to the primary documents behind it, and a corrections route that reaches a person. The standards above are what the byline stands for — if we breach them, hold the masthead to it.
Corrections and right of reply
Any company named on this site may respond, or ask us to correct something, by writing to grievance@loantrap.org. We do not require a lawyer’s letter and we do not charge for a correction.
If a statement is inaccurate we will check it against our source, and where we are wrong we will correct or remove it and publish the correction on that page with equal prominence, within 7 days. Where a company sends a response rather than a correction, we will publish the response alongside the article. Every page carries the date its sources were read, and a “what changed” log.
Grievance Officer (Information Technology Rules, 2021): grievance@loantrap.org — complaints are acknowledged within 24 hours and disposed of within 15 days.
What we publish
Original reporting on Indian lenders built from primary documents, and plain-language guidance for borrowers. We do not republish press releases, we do not aggregate other outlets, and we do not publish sponsored content of any kind.
